An African Safari holiday is a once in a lifetime experience and one that you may have been saving up for months if not years to go on. South Africa is the most popular destination for a safari holiday and there are a number of reasons why.
There are a huge number of animals, birds and reptiles that you can expect to see when on a safari and depending on what area you go to and what time of the year it is, your guide will probably tell you what you can expect to see. Sometimes though, when on a Safari holiday you may see one or two animals that you would not expect and that may even take the tour guide by surprise.
The Pangolin is one of the rarest animals in Africa and if you see one of these creatures you should think yourself very lucky indeed. It is very similar to an armadillo as it has an armoured plate all over its body. It is often is also known as scaly anteater or trenggiling. Its diet consists of ants and termites and when scared it will roll up into a tight ball only exposing its armoured skin as a way of protecting itself.
